Indigenous Peoples Day / 10.09.2023
Buenos días!
I hope everyone is doing well. It's October so that means it is my birthday month, but it also means the seasons are changing. Yesterday was so chilly and windy, which made me a little happy because I can bring out my winter clothes. I am guessing this whole week is gonna be chilly and really feel like fall weather, which I am so excited for.
Anyway, today is Indigenous Peoples Day so this week's playlist consists of indigenous artists I love to listen to. I hope y'all end up listening to them more than just this week :)
Indigenous Peoples Day
NDN Kars - Remix by The Halluci Nation (ft. Keith Secola) — I love The Halluci Nation so much. They're actually one of the 3 artists I'll listen to that is EDM/dub-step/electronic. I also saw them back in the summer of 2019 in San Francisco with some friends. It was such an amazing concert and overall memory. They invite indigenous dancers from the region/state they're playing. This is my favorite song from them, but all their other songs are worth checking out. Their most popular one is Electric Pow Wow Drum.
That's Love for You by Fawn Wood, Raven Wood, Nathan 'Rikishi' Pelly, Dallas Waskahat
AGUA DE MARACUYA by PALOMX — If you like Megan Thee Stallion or Ice Spice then you'll like PALOMX. This is one of their slower songs. They're from East Los Angeles. They incorporate mixtec and nahuatl in their songs. They also were one of the indigenous dancers that joined the Halluci Nation in the SF concert. All of their music is great and worth checking out.
Sky Woman by Anachnid
Soft Stud by Black Belt Eagle Scout — If you like Slow Pulp, Julia Jacklin, Snail Mail, Vagabon, Japanese Breakfast, Frankie Cosmos, Alvvays, illuminati hotties, or Girlpool then you'll like Black Belt Eagle Scout. Katherine Paul’s voice is so soothing and flows so seamlessly with the beat of the song. Katherine Paul said that this song stems from the complications of a queer open relationship. The guitar solo is so lustfuly beautiful.
Northern Love Affair by Digawolf — This one's a bit more folky.
Free Everybody by Elisa Harkins — If you like Hemlocke Springs, ARCA, or grimes then you'll like Elisa Harkins.
Moi, Elsie by Elisapie — If you like Nina Simone or Édith Piaf then you'll like this song.
Where Can My Man Be? by Fara Palmer — If you like Alabama Shakes, Yola, or The Highwomen then you'll like Fara Palmer.
Shamowowza by Feeble — If you like midwest emo like Joyce Manor or Modern Baseball then you'll like these foos from Oahu.
Everyday by Groakers — They got some sick guitar rifts with some really good vocals. It is one 'indigenous rocker foo' from East Los Angeles.
Come and Get Your Love by Redbone — This one's a classic from the 1970s that everyone I am sure has heard of. So if you like Stealers Wheel, The Jackson 5, or Blue Swede you'll like this band.
