something (mostly) new for the homies / 11.14.2023

Buenos días!

Most of these songs are new to me, so I haven’t made any memories with them to share with y’all. So it’s mostly an overview of the songs and what I think is cool about them. I think all are worth a listen and this playlist is best played in order, but who am I to tell you what to do with your life?

something (mostly) new for the homies

Not Strong Enough by boygenius— isn’t it rumored that they’re taking a hiatus?

Sophie
by UCHE YARA — Y’know when you listen to a song and you think you know the lyrics, but you’re completely off? Ya, that happened to me with this song. I thought it started with, “Sophie, you’re so mean / Your lesbianism is uncanny” LMAO It’s actually, “Sophie, you're so mean / left me in this uncanny.” ANYWAY, it’s such a good song. I think this one is my favorite newest song this week.  I like the build up of this leading up to verse 2 and the electric guitar through the song, sooooo good.

Purple Daisies by Luna Ivy — Bay Area local heroes <3 Not really heroes, but they are from the Bay Area, specifically San Francisco. I think the intro to this song very much gives off San Francisco vibes. Also, it reminds me of Best Coast a bit. “Yo quiero unos besos, tu eres mi sueño,” I'ma sucker when bands have spanglish songs.

Jonny by Faye Webster — for all the heartbroken homies out there.

Kiss Me Until My Lips Fall Off by Lebanon Hanover — for all the goth homies out there.

Supercut by Lorde  If you follow me on spotify (@deadvibes) and look at the friends activity, then you know that I was listening to this song on repeat on Sunday. This is a sad banger and it reminds of that meme/interview, “the club is bumping, the ladies look good, the alcohol is flowing. There is much pain in the world but not in this room right now.”

Material by Cafe Racer — Gives me a bit of the doors/lou reed vibes. Small band from Chicago, Illinois. This song is from their newest album Words In Error.

Walking On Heaven by Lovers Peak — More Bay Area local heroes and another one for the goth homies out there. I recently found these foos, it’s two brothers who formed this lil’ duo. They are inspired by early-80s new wave, indie rock, and post punk, which you can definitely hear in this song. If you’re up in the bay then they’re always doing concerts in SF/Santa Cruz.

Water by Vaticanjail — This is a Latina artist, only has 169 listeners monthly. She reminds me of CocoRosie, if y’all know who that is. Specifically the song Werewolf by CocoRosie. Both these songs are really good.

If I Go by of all living things  The simplest lyrics ever sung, “If I go it is not to come back /  If I go it is not because of you.”

Tezeta (Nostalgia) by Mulatu Astatke— Anyone up for some Ethiopian jazz? As the song progresses it only gets better.

Happy listening!
